At the 1982 World Championships in Guayaquil, Ecuador, an unknown but fiercely driven 18-year-old Canadian swimmer exploded out of the blocks to shatter the world record for the Men’s 200-meter breaststroke. He would become more than a Gold Medal winner. Victor Davis would become a hero. This is his inspiring true story.
In the fall of 1989, Mel Davis (Peter MacNeill, Talk to Me) receives a phone call in the middle of the night. His son, Victor (Mark Lutz, Angel), suffering severe injuries following an automobile accident, is in a Montreal hospital where friends and family have gathered at his bedside. Victor’s father and Victor’s girlfriend, Donna (Polly Shannon, CSI: Miami), draw every bit of strength and courage they can to stand vigil for the charismatic young man they both love. Both are stirred by the same kind of hope that made Victor an Olympic champion. Against almost insurmountable odds—both physical and psychological—Victor made every one of his dreams come true. Through a father’s heartening memories, from dusk till dawn, an inspired life unfolds.
Victor Davis was the young working-class athlete who dreamed of becoming an Olympic star and who, despite bouts with mononucleosis and Spina Bifida Occulta, had the determination to become what he wanted to be. He had what it took to beat the challenges head-on. He had an unwavering will to win and succeed. He had a man like Cliff Barry (Ron Lea, Saw IV), the only coach he had ever known, to inspire him. He was a fiercely patriotic and unpredictably mercurial champ who tested the limits—his own and those of his competitors. Above all, Victor Davis reached the pinnacle of his sport. And then one fateful night came his greatest challenge—one that would ensure that Victor’s unbeatable spirit would live on in the most extraordinary ways.
As dynamic, complex, and inspiring as its subject, Victor stands above all others as a true story of genuine triumph.
