THOUGH NONE GO WITH ME
Elizabeth Bishop is in her seventies, and full of hard-earned wisdom that she now must impart on her rebellious granddaughter Lisa, telling her a story about our choices in life and the complexities of love.
What becomes of our choices in life is the question raised by a remarkable heroine whose faith is tested on a spiritually complex and heartfelt journey through personal loss and the most universal of human struggles.
Elizabeth Bishop (Cheryl Ladd, Las Vegas) is in her seventies, and full of hard-earned wisdom that she now must impart on her rebellious granddaughter Lisa (Lindy Newton, The Notebook). The restless teen wants to ditch her small-town life for an uncertain future in California. Elizabeth understands, but her story is one Lisa needs to hear. It drifts back to 1951, when Elizabeth (Amy Grabow, General Hospital) is fresh out of college. America is immersed in the Korean War, and girls are pining for their men in uniform—except Elizabeth. She wants out of Three Rivers to pursue a career, and nothing can dissuade her. Not even a proposal of marriage from her sweet neighbour Will Bishop (David Norona, CSI: Miami), a boy more like a big brother than a romantic lead. Then comes a small request from her father, Dr. James LeRoy (Christopher Allport, Commander in Chief). Elizabeth is to greet the town’s handsome new associate minister, Ben Phillips (Brad Rowe, The Closer), at the train station and show him what Three Rivers has to offer. As far as Ben is concerned, that’s Elizabeth.
What transpires is an undeniable attraction and deepest love—and a future Elizabeth never anticipated. But when Ben decides to leave for Korea to continue God’s work for the boys in arms, Elizabeth is crushed. She reluctantly says goodbye, but not without the promise of his safe return. Weathering his absence with an iron will and a broken heart, Elizabeth’s world is shattered when she receives word that Ben has been killed in an attack on a field hospital in Korea. As time passes, the lonely Elizabeth finally gives in to Will’s proposals and rediscovers a happiness she thought she’d lost. Then, a year later Elizabeth receives a letter. It’s from Ben, heartsick that she believed he was dead. A prisoner of war, his release is marking the end of his days in Korea. The love of Elizabeth’s life is coming home—a return to Three Rivers that will challenge the conflicted Elizabeth to her very heart and soul.
Inspired by the bestselling novel by Jerry Jenkins (Left Behind series), Though None Go With Me is a nostalgic and touching chronicle of faith, endurance, love, and resolve, one as unpredictable and illuminating as life itself.
