PICKING UP AND DROPPING OFF
Two divorcees find new love in an unexpected place – Gate 19 at JFK Airport. Each Christmas Will and Jane exchange awkward hellos as they send their kids to their other parent, till eventually they find the courage to say more than hello.
In the tradition of Sleepless in Seattle comes a romantic comedy that finds love in the most unexpected places and stirs the heart in the most unexpected ways.
Meet Will Chaney (Scott Wolf, Party Of Five), a divorced, somewhat scattered, thirty-three-year-old weatherman for a local TV station in New York City. His pride and joy is his eight-year-old son Ben (Liam Ranger, Catch Me If You Can). It’s the Christmas season, and today at JFK Airport, Gate 19, Will is picking him up on a holiday retreat from his mother. Meet Jane West (Amanda Detmer, Big Fat Liar), a recently separated, thirty-three-year-old, poised-to-perfection antiques dealer. She still has one thing in common with her soon-to-be-ex-husband Richard: their seven-year-old daughter, Claire. Today at JFK, Jane is dropping her off to be with her father in Chicago. The old switcheroo for estranged couples with joint custody—a back-and-forth shuttle, picking up and dropping off. Will and Jane recognise the pattern in each other. After a double-take, an awkward hello, and a hesitant goodbye, they part.
The trouble is, Will can’t stop thinking about her. A man in “dating purgatory,” he’s discovered that the only eligible women are either too young or too old. Jane seemed perfect. According to her, so did Will—a real guy she’d met somewhere other than through a computer dating service. She should have gotten a number. At least a name. And so it goes for two single New Yorkers, two strangers, two familiar faces. Season by season, holiday by holiday, they cross paths until one day, while picking up and dropping off at the airport terminal, they have the courage to finally make their connection. As friends, family, children, and exes make their moves, Will and Jane dive head first and eyes closed into the game of love one more time.
Executive produced by Emmy winner Lisa Kudrow (Friends) and directed by one of TV’s hottest talents, Steven Robman (The OC, The Gilmore Girls), Picking Up and Dropping Off is a winning holiday love story that will resonate with anybody who ever longed to find “the right one.”
