OUTSIDER, THE
In Montana 1887, Rachel Yoder and her son struggle to maintain their ranch in the wake of her husband’s murder but when a wounded gunfighter stumbles into her life, Rachel’s faith is tested as he represents everything her strict upbringing forbids.
She’s an unyielding woman born to the righteous laws of God and tradition. He’s an uncompromising gunfighter born to raise hell. In the ever-shifting panorama of the Wild West, human emotions can shift as well, but seldom without a price…
In the wilds of Montana, 1887, Rebecca Yoder (Naomi Watts, Mulholland Drive) and her son, Benjo, struggle to maintain their sheep ranch in the wake of her husband’s murder a year before. A devout member of the Plain People, a religious sect that rejects the outside world, Rachel’s devotion gives her the strength to move forward, even though her husband’s killers went free. But her faith is suddenly challenged when wounded gunfighter, Johnny Gault (Tim Daly, Wings) stumbles into her life in need of aide. An outsider among Rachel’s kind, Gault represents everything their strict upbringing forbids. He’s an outlaw of notoriety, he’s a sinner, and he believes only in himself. He’s also irresistibly attractive.
In nursing him back to health, Rachel endures the harsh criticism of the flock. In deciding to let Gault stay, she faces banishment. The outsider has replaced Rachel’s husband in keeping up the ranch, as a father figure to Benjo, and also in matters of the heart. Though she gives in to forbidden impulses—including her secret desire to avenge her husband’s murder—Rachel still hopes to ultimately change Gault’s ways, and draw him away from the lure of the gun. As tensions broil between the Plain People and Rachel, and as violence threatens this once-peaceful Montana plateau, Gault’s skill as a professional shootist aims to change Rachel’s life forever, by proving to be her only salvation.
