MCBRIDE 9: SEMPER FI
When a war hero, is the prime suspect in the murder of his pregnant wife, McBride takes on the case for the defence. The accused insists that the guilty party is the woman with whom he was having an affair. Unfortunately her alibi is airtight.
While the grisly murder of an innocent woman is engaging McBride’s investigating skills, it’s touching his partner, Roberta (Marta Dubois, Silk Stalkings), in a more personal way.
It’s not a pretty sight. In a bungalow in a cozy, tree-lined Southern California neighbourhood, Tom (Liam Waite, Ghosts of Mars) regains consciousness after a brutal attack to find himself soaked in blood and his pregnant wife stabbed to death in her bed. The tabloids have quite a story and attorney McBride has quite a case in proving Tom’s innocence. No forced entry. Just a trail of blood from wife to husband. It’s more clear-cut to McBride’s partner, forensics detective Roberta Hansen: always look to the spouse first. And in this case, last.
But for Roberta, the case cuts a little deeper. Tom’s sister is Katherine Mitchell (Barbara Niven, Back to You and Me), an IAB shrink who’s been with the force for twenty years. She and Roberta have a history that goes back just as long with a lot of bad blood between them. McBride’s only lead is Tom’s alibi—Kaia Roberts (Katie Walder, Gilmore Girls), the woman with whom Tom was having an affair and not incidentally, the daughter of Tom’s Commanding Officer in the Gulf. Tom says she came to the house that fateful night. The fact is Kaia was locked down in drug rehab on that night. It’s clear to both McBride and Roberta that someone is lying. What they’re about to discover is even more surprising: why.
Television’s irascible “lawyer for the little guy” is back in his most complex case yet.
