MCBRIDE 5: TUNE IN FOR MURDER
The careers of talk-radio superstars Ron and Bob are in flux when Ron decides to dump his partner and go solo. When Ron is found shot to death in his home, Bob is the #1 suspect. It’s a slam-dunk case to everyone but Bob’s defence attorney McBride.
You’re listening to Ron and Bob, the highest-rated talk-radio hosts in America. But it’s detective McBride who’s on call when all that talk leads to murder.
Morning drive-time wouldn’t be the same without Ron Gallo and Bob Carter. Funny, hip, and outrageously abrasive, they’re L.A’s hottest talk-radio duo. Off the air, they’re less than friends—competitive and argumentative, but bound together by a contract that happens to be coming up for renewal. As Ron tells station manager Paul Barnett, he wants to dump his partner and go solo. It’s no surprise that the news doesn’t sit well with Bob. When Ron is found shot to death in his home, Bob finds himself totally off the air and on the boards as the #1 suspect. It hardly helps his case that Bob had threatened his partner in public. Even worse, Ron fingered him as the killer on his sputtering call to 911.
It seems like a slam-dunk case of homicide—to everyone but Bob’s attorney. Easy going McBride may not be one of Bob’s most devoted fans, but despite the overwhelming evidence, he’s not convinced that his client snuffed the backstabber. There’s no living witness and no weapon. Unfortunately, Bob has no alibi. Fortunately, Ron had a lot of enemies, including every soul at KLAR. On the other hand, none of them would be capable of framing the amiable Bob for the crime. As further evidence weighs in against the suspect, McBride has only his gut-level instinct for defence. That, and Ron’s hair-raising 911 tape, which reveals more than McBride first realised.
Don’t touch that dial. McBride is on the air in the most high-profile case of his career—in the season’s wittiest new crime series.
