JUST A DREAM
When a film crew come to Nevada a young boy’s life is changed forever. For most of the locals, the newcomers arouse curiosity and stir excitement. For Henry, however, the movie makers change his life in ways he could never have imagined.
For some people in the Great Basin, the year 1960 marked a new beginning. For others it signalled the end of era. What everyone had in common was a dream.
There’s not a lot to do in a dusty Nevada desert town. But for Henry Starbuck (Jeremy Sumpter), the twelve-year-old son of a local doctor (Golden Globe-nominee Robby Benson, The Chosen) and a loving but strict mother (Ally Sheedy, St. Elmo’s Fire), every day is a new adventure. This is the summer of Henry’s first job — bussing tables at the Crest Lounge, a pub owned by Cindy Wilder (Amy Madigan, Pollock); of learning life lessons from the pub’s soulful barfly, Cecil Running Bear (Rodney Grant,Wild, Wild, West); of seeing his first movie in which all of life’s possibilities unfold in glorious Technicolor; and of meeting his first real friend — town mechanic, and avid movie fan, J.M. Hoaglund (Carl Lumbly, Nightjohn, Lifepod). Once J.M. had dreams too—of meeting movie stars and beautiful women. But age has turned him into a realist, and now, only two things in life matter: his tow truck and his shop. But even forgotten dreams have a way of coming true.
A film crew has invaded their small town to shoot a movie. Only blocks away, three legends of the silver screen — including Hollywood’s greatest sex symbol—are calling Carson City “home” for the summer. For most of the folks in town, it arouses curiosity and stirs excitement. For Henry and J.M. it changes their lives in ways neither ever dreamed.
