GENTLE BEN 2: BLACK GOLD
Gentle Ben’s home is threatened by oil fields which are coming dangerously close to the Wildlife Preserve, poisoning streams and endangering wildlife. It’s up to 13-year-old Mark to find a way to stop it before it’s too late.
In Gentle Ben: Black Gold, the classic adventure that began in Gentle Ben: Terror on the Mountain continues, as a young boy and his buddy, a great black bear, find their spectacular natural habitat threatened by forces they seem powerless to stop.
This is the majestic high country of tall pines where thirteen-year-old Mark Wedloe (Reiley McClendon, Pearl Harbor) has forged an uncommon friendship with nature’s most tenderhearted bear, Gentle Ben. But also dotting the splendid wilds is a growing assembly of oil fields. Contributing to this “progressive” blight is local landowner, Fog Benson (Golden Globe nominee Corbin Bernsen, Tidal Wave: No Escape), who’s struck a deal with ruthless oilman Cal Stryker (Jack Conley, Johnson County War), to expand their business dangerously close to the Wildlife Preserve. It’s unsettling news for Ranger Jack Wedloe (Dean Cain, The Runaway), Mark’s uncle and surrogate father, who suspects that the sudden ailments afflicting his wild game can be attributed to the hazardous poisoning of the freshwater streams.
The agricultural department needs more than suspicions though. They require hard evidence of contamination, and it’s Mark who finds it. There is no better way for him to expose the wildcat drillers than by entering an essay-writing contest for an environmentalist magazine. But revealing the truth is risky. Mark’s co-conspirator in the exposé is his best friend, Ashley (Cody Weiant, Gentle Ben: Terror on the Mountain), Fog Benson’s own daughter. When Social Services threatens to once again move Mark into foster care, he fears his personal fight could be put on hold. Now he has to muster all the courage he can—and fast—to bring a corporate giant to its knees and offer a gentle giant like Ben a place to roam free and safe forever.
The stories of Gentle Ben have found their way into the hearts of families for generations. Filmed against the majestic splendour of the high country, you can now rediscover the magic, humanity, and generous heart of a friendship like no other in this stirring sequel from the Alpine Collection.
