FAMILY PLAN
Charlie’s new boss extols the virtue of family, so in a bid to secure her job she borrows her friend’s daughter and hires an actor to play her husband, but when her new neighbour is her new boss, the one-night marriage turns into a full-time improv.
What do you when your career is on the line, your new neighbour is your new boss, and your make-believe marriage is on the rocks? If you’re like Charlie, you’ll come up with a plan…
Charlie McKenzie (Tori Spelling, Beverly Hills, 90210) has it together. Single, sharp, and pretty, with keen business savvy, she’s devoted to her career at Sugar Dot Bakeries, a not-so-leading maker of fine cookies—until a corporate takeover jeopardizes her job. Walcott Cookies is moving in and making changes. Knowing the values that Edward Walcott (Greg Germann, Ally McBeal) stands for—like stable family values—Charlie figures it won’t hurt if she makes a good first impression with her new boss by borrowing her best friend Stacy’s (Kali Rocha, Meet the Fockers) wedding ring, a picture of Stacy’s daughter Nicole (Abigail Breslin, Signs), and by extolling the virtues of a solid marriage. It works like a charm. But just as Charlie is having second thoughts about her little white lies, Walcott offers her a higher salary, bonuses, stock options, and a handsome male assistant. OK, so who doesn’t lie on their resume? No big deal, until Walcott wants to celebrate by meeting Charlie’s lovely family for dinner.
Luckily for Charlie, Stacy’s game—all her ring signifies is a husband who walked out on her. Stacy’s daughter is up for it too. But the ruse is missing one detail: a husband. Enter sexy out-of-work actor Buck Maddox (Jordan Bridges, Mona Lisa Smile), who’s eager for any role—even that of a happily married suburban dental hygienist. Amazingly, the home-cooked dinner for Walcott and his wife Victoria comes off without a hitch. The perfect end to a half-baked day? Not exactly. Walcott plans to move in to the vacant house next door. After all, who’d make more compatible neighbours than Mr. and Mrs. Maddox? Even Charlie admits that she and her faux hubby have an undeniable chemistry. Just when Charlie warms to the idea of being a wife and mother, Stacy’s ex comes crawling back, and Wolcott spots Buck on TV. Now, the combustible hoax seems poised to explode, and it’s all Charlie can do to hold on to her newfound family values for dear life.
A fresh romantic comedy with a delicious screwball twist, Family Plan is delightful family fun that proves there’s nothing make-believe about love—no matter how much a husband charges by the line.
