When Karl is bitten by a venomous mosquito, even Dinotopia’s most potent healer can’t provide the antidote. Suffering from a rapidly rising fever, his chances for survival seem doomed. After speaking to her mother Rosemary, Marion realises there’s only one chance left for the guy she loves. Unfortunately, it can’t be found on Dinotopia, but through a secret portal to the outside world. If David can make it to Manhattan’s Bellevue Hospital he can find the cure—but he’s not going alone. Where they end up is thousands of miles away in Budapest with no money, a language barrier, a restless LeSage, and a creature long extinct. With time running out and Karl’s life ebbing away by the minute, nothing goes right. LeSage finds herself on the run from the police, the Chasmosaur is missing, and a museum curator becomes wise to the baby dinosaur. Incredibly though, the cure lies within LeSage. Her pure blood can produce the antibodies they need—a purity that also carries risks. Unaccustomed to the pollution of outside world, LeSage soon becomes susceptible to diseases of her own. Now, the three Dinotopians must find the portal to return—and fast. What they take back with them to Dinotopia is up to fate.
