CATEGORY 6 , DAY OF DESTRUCTION
In the wake of a super-storm of unprecedented destructive power, a suspicious coast-to-coast blackout threatens to render the country helpless without communication and vulnerable to the unthinkable. Now it’s up to a select few to save it.
Three twisters descend upon Las Vegas leaving a neon wasteland in their wake. Hurricanes tear through the Gulf Coast without warning. Record-high temperatures scorch the northeast. One-hundred-mile-an-hour winds tear across the south. Lightning storms ignite the sky. Wildfires blaze out of control. For Amy Harking (Nacy McKeon, The Division), a budding Chicago anchorwoman looking for her big break, the fear of these weather anomalies is second only to the dread of the inevitable repercussions: rolling coast-to-coast blackouts and the dwindling sources needed to revive them. With the worst power breakdown on record looming, an overload could cripple the nation and leave the entire population in the dark, without communication and vulnerable to unthinkable dangers.
Amy suspects that the overload danger is originating with the Lexer Corporation, a dominant nuclear power supplier represented by Becca Kerns (Chandra West, The 70s) Senior VP in charge of PR. Her job is to keep America calm—but her secrets could terrify the nation. Amy is determined to find out why the power systems are failing. Is it human error? A computer hacker? Or terrorist sabotage? In Oklahoma, forecaster Andy Goodman (Golden Globe winner Brian Dennehy, The Crooked E) and storm chaser Thomas Dixon (Golden Globe winner Randy Quaid, 5 Days to Midnight) are putting their own spins on the impending disaster—ones that could make or finally break their high-profile careers. For one of them, it’s life and death. A superstorm is coming with the destructive force of fifty times that of the atom bomb. Now, as black clouds blanket the country, and as an overload chain reaction renders it helpless, it’s man against nature, and man against man.
With an all-star cast that includes Golden Globe winner Thomas Gibson (Brush with Fate) and Oscar, Emmy, and Golden Globe winner Diane Wiest (Bullets Over Broadway), Category 6: Day of Destruction is a miniseries spectacle in the tradition of 10.5 and The Day After Tomorrow. It’s also a fury of human drama, heart-pounding action, and astounding special effects.
