ASSIGNMENT BERLIN
Californian detective Tracy Ann Garret visits her father in Berlin, but when he is shot in an assassination gone wrong she becomes embroiled in a dangerous investigation into the Berlin Russian Mafia and a conspiracy of hitmen and police corruption.
California detective, Tracy Ann Garret (Sammi Davis), becomes the target of revenge when she is held responsible for the murder of the head of the Korean Mafia. The Mafia kingpin’s son, Kim Li, swears revenge as the police drag him away. Tracy’s boss, Al Spektor, urges her to take some time to relax and perhaps visit her father, U.S. Army Col. Cliff Garret (Cliff Robertson), in her birthplace of Berlin.
Tracy’s first night in Berlin is anything but relaxing as she and her father dine at a restaurant and are being watched by a mysterious man, Konstantin Varda (Martin Umbach). As they leave, Varda heads toward them. Suddenly a shot rings out and Tracy’s father is hit in the chest. Colonel Garret is critically wounded and undergoes major surgery, but pulls through successfully. The hit man, Ivan (Igor Wolkov), meets with Victor Borokov (Michael Mendl), godfather of the Berlin Russian Mafia, who is incensed that the bullet meant for Varda, instead took out Colonel Garret, a CIA consultant. Victor threatens Ivan’s life and gives him orders to deflect the police investigation.
Colonel Garret’s longtime friend, Chief Inspector of Homicide, Hans Osler (Jan Niklas), assigns Inspector Erik Glint (Dominic Raacke), an organized crime specialist, to the case. Not one to sit idle, Tracy begins an investigation of her own. Erik agrees to let her help, but threatens to deport her if she attempts to do things her own way. Nevertheless, Tracy tracks down Varda, the only other witness to her father’s shooting, and learns that his daughter, Nadia, has been kidnapped. Realizing the bullet that struck her father was meant for Varda, Tracy befriends him. But when pressured, she reluctantly reveals Varda’s name to Inspector Osler.
As Tracy works alongside Erik, he lets slip the implications of Colonel Garret’s CIA involvement. Not fully recovered from Erik’s insinuations about her father, she receives even more disturbing news, a message from her boss that Kim Li has gone underground. Tracy takes refuge in Erik’s home and watches him read a bedtime story to his daughter, Marta (Anina Abt-Siebold). Tracy and Erik find each other in the wee hours of the night and awaken to learn of a major breakthrough in Erik’s case—the cracking of the Berlin baby bunker. Planning to confront kidnap suspect, Manfred Brumm (Peter Simonischek), Erik and Tracy attend a benefit hosted by Manfred and his wife, Helga (Gesche Tebbenhoff). After witnessing a heated argument between Manfred and Osler, Erik believes he may have discovered a police cover-up.
Tracy once again takes matters into her own hands as she comes up against a conspiracy of Mafia hitmen, police corruption, baby kidnapping and bribery. In a shoot-out that leaves Erik wounded and Ivan on the run, Tracy comes face-to-face with a nightmarish moment of truth when Kim Li unsuspectingly pulls up behind her. Relying on her American-bred detective know-how and receiving some unexpected back up, Tracy ultimately claims victory in this gripping story of murder and intrigue.
