INSPECTORS
Young Postal Inspector, Alex Urbina, and veteran investigator, Frank Hughes, hunt down the culprits responsible for a devastating mail bombing. In a race against time, the two men must find the killer, and establish where his next target lies.
In this chilling, high-tension drama, young Postal Inspector, Alex Urbina (Jonathan Silverman), and veteran investigator, Frank Hughes (Louis Gossett, Jr.), hunt down the culprits responsible for a devastating mail bombing. A deadly package is sent to a Baltimore couple’s home, killing James Carrigan and leaving his wife in a coma.
The Carrigans’ son, Drew, becomes a suspect when he flees, abandoning his companion, Melissa Kaline, and their young son, Edison.
Drew makes it as far as Bayfield, VA, where he is arrested at a roadblock. Sheriff Glover balks at releasing him, but the feds exercise authority and return Drew to Baltimore. Drew there demands to have a lie detector test.
Sheriff Glover’s hostility prompts Frank to do some checking. He learns that two students driving to the University of Connecticut were murdered just outside Bayfield. At mention of the college, Drew’s polygraph fluctuates wildly. When a forensic specialist finds the letter “D” from the bomb’s address, the inspectors become certain Drew was the intended target.
The motive becomes clear. Drew was riding in a pickup with one-time friends, Skell and Spider, who, heavily intoxicated, opened fire on the Connecticut Chevy for speeding past them. The shots caused the Chevy to overturn and Skell proceeded to shoot both students in cold blood. It was Drew’s testimony that put Skell and Spider behind bars and the bombing was their act of retaliation.
In Spider’s taped prison phone calls to his girlfriend, Amy, Frank unravels disguised directions for wiring a bomb. A piece of the detonator is found in the rubble, helping to locate the manufacturer. Learning the part was reordered, the inspectors believe Amy and her new boyfriend, Lester Cochrane, may have made another bomb.
Photos of the pair are distributed. A postal employee remembers Lester mailing a “fun wrapped” package specifying Saturday delivery. When the two are arrested in Georgia, Lester is identified as the Bayfield sheriff’s son.
Suddenly, the inspectors realise the “fun-wrapped” package is for Drew’s son, Edison. Racing to Melissa’s home, they arrive to find no package or Edison. Edison is at his grandmother’s where he spends every Saturday.
With sirens blaring, the inspectors speed to her home. In the back yard, the toddler is tearing wrappings from the box. Acting by reflex, Alex dives, pulling the child to safety. Seconds later, the bomb explodes, leaving only a crater
