ROYAL SCANDAL
When Sherlock Holmes receives a letter begging for his assistance, he is stunned to find that the King of Bohemia is the author. With Dr Watson in tow, he sets about helping the King and becomes involved in a tale of lust, rejection and blackmail.
Matt Frewer and Kenneth Welsh, first seen in The Hound of the Baskervilles, are back again as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. In this delightful adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s “A Scandal in Bohemia,” the world’s greatest detective is matched by the most alluring adversary in his illustrious career.
An anonymous note has been left for Sherlock Holmes: You are a man who may be trusted with matters of great importance. Quite direct. Quite true. But Holmes and his dedicated colleague, Dr. Watson, haven’t a clue as to just how important until its author arrives to clarify his indelicate predicament. The King of Bohemia (Robin Wilcock, The Hound of the Baskervilles), engaged to a Scandinavian princess, is being blackmailed by legendary opera star Irene Adler (Liliana Komorowska, The Art of War). The sinister soprano has threatened to destroy his reputation with proof of their illicit affair—a photograph taken in a distinctly compromising position. Her ransom? The king’s hand in marriage.
Watson believes that a case of sexual blackmail is beneath the talents of the foremost consulting detective. Holmes knows better, because Holmes knows the woman in question. She’s not only beautiful and talented, but a genius when it comes to manipulation and disguise. Blackmail is only one of her lucrative scams. Would she resort to such a common crime solely to become the consort of the future German Kaiser? Not likely. Irene has much loftier ambitions, and when murder becomes part of the game, Holmes moves in on the extraordinarily cunning songbird.
