WOMAN UNDONE
When Terri is found near the burnt out remains of the car holding her dead husband’s body the story of their troubled marriage comes to light. When a bullet is found in his brain it’s up to a small town jury to decide if she’s innocent or a murderer.
Terri Hansen (Mary McDonnell) is found wandering and dazed in a desolate stretch of the desert, near the burned-out wreck of a car which holds the charred body of her husband, Allan (Randy Quaid).
It was a terrible accident, she tells the sheriff, Mac. Terri is treated at the local clinic, taken to a motel, and befriended by a cowboy lawyer, Ross Bishop (Sam Elliott), who offers to help her handle her affairs.
But the coroner finds a bullet in Hansen’s brain. Terri is arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder. Ross prepares her defence. Through flashbacks, the story of the troubled Hansen marriage is told. Allan and Terri have come out West hoping to put Terri’s past affairs behind. But Allan cannot forget and erupts in jealous and violent outbursts. Terri meets a handsome lifeguard, and soon they are lovers. Allan suspects her of a new betrayal.
And on the Hansens’ fateful drive to a desert resort, revelations are made that finally destroy the marriage. A series of startling events leads up to the fiery crash and the sound of gunfire.
Ross defends Terri, explaining the mystery of what really happened on that lonely road in the middle of the night. In the tense courtroom, Terri’s future hangs precariously as a six-member small town jury decides whether she is innocent or a cold-blooded murderer.
