FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE GIRL NEXT DOOR
When childhood friends Theresa and Mark meet years later, fall in love, and decide to marry, it’s a dream come true – for them at least. For their mothers, two unyielding women in a 25 year feud, it’s an opportunity for the ultimate battle of wills.
You’re cordially invited to attend the blessed union of two people in love. Now, choose sides.
Saying goodbye to the Pacific Northwest and a dead-end relationship, Theresa Connelly (Crystal Allen, Maid in Manhattan) has come back home to sunny L.A. Sharing an apartment with her former college roommate Angela (Brigid Brannagh, The Man in the Iron Mask), she’s only a boat ride away from her parents on Catalina Island. Theresa may be starting over, but some things remain the same, like her affection for Mark Lucas (Ken Marino, Love for Rent), a charter-pilot eager to finally turn their childhood crush into something serious. There’s one problem: Theresa’s mother Bridget (Academy Award winner Patty Duke, Bigger Than the Sky). Her feud with Mark’s mother Betsy (Emmy and Golden Globe winner Shelly Long, Cheers) over competing neighbourhood Halloween parties has been a bitter rivalry for years—and there’s no way that these West Coast Hatfields and McCoys will accept their children falling in love.
While the mothers hold on to their grudge like two pit bulls on a T-bone, the fathers, golfing buddies James Connelly (Patrick Duffy, Dallas) and Frank Lucas (Bruce Boxleitner, Gods and Generals), are in full support of their love struck kids. When Mark pops the question to Theresa, it’s time to come clean to the embattled future mothers-in-law. That’s when the plan for a simple outdoor wedding becomes a lavishly over-decorated springboard for Bridget and Betsy’s temporary truce—and the ultimate war of wills. As caterers and florists are hired and fired, as the guest lists are retooled and revised, and as the aesthetics of folding chairs and finger foods are fought to the death, Bridget and Betsy turn the happiest day of Theresa and Mark’s life into the scariest night this side of Halloween. But at least they’re working together.
Falling in Love with the Girl Next Door is the perfect romantic comedy for anyone who’s ever fallen in love, out of love, and back again.
