Samantha Kinsey (Emmy nominee Kellie Martin, E.R.), owner of the Mystery Woman bookstore, admits it’s strange. Her friend Barbara Sommers (Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Patricia McCormack, The Bad Seed)—a conspiracy buff still mourning the sudden death of her beloved brother—has been left out of the old man’s will. Instead, Albert Sommers’ vast fortune and real estate holdings have been divvied up among the far less deserving, including his shamefully young and greedy trophy bride, Madeline (Robyn Lively, Chicago Hope), and his cunning and hardly devoted stepdaughter Fawn (Kari Wuhrer, General Hospital) and her fiancé Tobias (Joe Michael Burke, General Hospital) a couple that’s not about to let a depressing funeral get in the way of their lavish nuptials. Inviting criminal charges, a heavy lawsuit, and wrath from the family, Barbara screams foul play in accusing fouler benefactors.

Barbara even has photographs that can prove her claims of misdeeds—or so she says. Unfortunately, Barbara has been shot dead. When the photographs conveniently disappear and Samantha herself is attacked, the amateur sleuth feels it’s time to figure out whodunit. But the case—one with clues stretching as far back as World War II—proves far more complex and nefarious than Samantha ever imagined. So have the Sommers’ intimate relationships, suspicious business acquaintances, questionable friendships, and extended family ties. At the centre of the mystery is a motive for murder so ingenious it would have stumped Agatha Christie. But not so for Samantha Kinsey, the new Queen of Crime.
