OUR HOUSE
After the passing of her husband, Ruth struggles to enjoy life, but when homeless woman Billy saves her from a tragedy, Ruth finds a new purpose in life. Sheltering Billy and her street family, Ruth encounters hostility in her neighbourhood.
A woman realises that it’s never too late to discover new options in life and to make the choice to change.
Seventy-year-old Beverly Hills widow Ruth Galloway (Emmy winner Doris Roberts, Everybody Loves Raymond) has been simply marking time since her beloved husband Martin died, just three years shy of their fiftieth wedding anniversary. She spends her days reminiscing and tending to her roses, while her son Paul (Jeff Marcus, Just Like Heaven), estranged from his father for years, tries to keep his mother active and positive. But her daughter Geena (Ann Magnuson, Panic Room), an attorney with little time for anyone but herself, thinks it’s time for mom to be put in a facility where someone can keep an eye on her. Then one night a tragedy is narrowly averted when Billy (Judy Reyes, Scrubs), a homeless woman, saves Ruth’s life. Neither woman can imagine where that night is going to take them.
In an effort to give thanks, Ruth invites Billy, an aspiring writer who lost her own husband as well, into her home for a place to stay. In time Ruth convinces Billy to make room for her street-family, which includes Milkbone (Omar J. Dorsey, The Reading Room), Tunes (Jim Cody Williams, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest), Max (E.J. Callahan, Love’s Enduring Promise), Dallas (Stacy Solodkin, 24), and the ill and aged Rose (Ellen Geer, Clear and Present Danger). While Ruth’s extended family brings a sense of purpose to her life, Ruth’s neighbors aren’t taken with living next door to “a shelter” and hit Ruth with a lawsuit. Their high-powered attorney Tom (Greg Evigan, Murder Among Friends) thinks the case against Ruth is open-and-shut. What Ruth needs is ammunition of her own. She finds it close to home, and with it comes a redefinition of family that’ll change everyone’s life.
Exploring the tribulations of family and the rewards of friendship, Our House is a movie for anyone who grabbed at a second chance and wouldn’t let it go.
