WHAT I DID FOR LOVE
When a rising LA lawyer visits the family of his country girl fiancé for the Christmas holiday, he plans to do things proper. Ride horses, square dance, and ask her father for his daughter’s hand in marriage, but it won’t be so easy.
Call him a city slicker. Call him a tenderfoot. But it’s too soon to call him a member of the family. But it wouldn’t be Christmas without a few complications.
James White (Jeremy London, Out of the Woods), a rising Los Angeles defence attorney, has been offered a partnership in his law firm. His fiancé is Sadie Ryder (Dorie Barton, Just Desserts), a doctor with the heart of a country girl. This much anticipated Christmas, Sadie’s taking James back home to finally meet the family. Once in her hometown of Pine Gap, James plans to do things proper—like officially asking Karl Ryder (James Gammon, Cold Mountain) for his daughter’s hand in marriage, pretending to ride horses, faking his way through hunting season, square dancing with the best of them, and baling hay like a pro. James is sure the future dad-in-law is going to be impressed. He’s never been more mistaken.
Karl likens lawyers to bloodsucking freaks. Sadie’s aunt (Emmy winner Sally Struthers, All in the Family) tries to set her up with a real man like her High School sweetheart Clint (John Littlefield, Hulk), and for further holiday tension, environmentalists threaten to turn their County into a national park. That means the end of the Ryder Ranch. What Karl needs is a good lawyer, but don’t tell him that. When James realises that no amount of fluid French will impress the Ryders, he hightails it into the wilderness to prove himself an expert horseman only to find himself hopelessly lost. With little more an issue of the New Yorker and wine corkscrew, James resorts to a unique survival strategy—panic. Then again, James doesn’t really know the folks of Fisher County at all. By the time the town search party comes to the rescue, everyone is going to learn a lesson in love, acceptance, and forgiveness. After all, it is Christmas.
